On this web page, African Network Travel and Tours briefs you on the legal tender of Ghana, West Africa. The currency in Ghana is the Cedi. It is not allowed to bring Cedis into Ghana and/or take Cedis out of Ghana. All the major western foreign currencies are easily changeable at the banks or the authorized Forex Bureaus in all major Ghanaian cities.
Every amount that you change has to be recorded on your "travel form T5" (You will receive this form on request upon entering Ghana). You must make sure that the bank official or the official of the Forex bureau signs or stamps the form. You can choose Travelers Cheques for safety reasons.
In every big city in Ghana, you can withdraw money from an ATM with a VISA card provided you have a bank account. At some supermarkets and hotels it is also possible to pay with a credit card (Euro card, MasterCard, VISA).
However, keep in mind that some credit card companies will charge you for this service. The exchange rate that is used for Travelers Cheques and credit cards is lower than that of cash.
