The year 2007 marks the golden jubilee anniversary of Ghana's Independence and the 200th anniversary of emancipation from slavery. Various celebrations will take place throughout the country.
African Network Travel & Tours will celebrate this golden jubilee in a grand style with our guests. We have planned a golden home coming 8-Day program with highlights on Ashanti Region, where Akwasidae will take place. Akwasidae is an ornate ceremony, commemorating the date that the Ashanti Golden Stool was magically brought down from heaven. The festival features a golden stool alongside the central feature of attention, the Ashanti King, who is carried on a palanquin through the procession of Ashanti people who have come to pay homage to their King. It is a beautiful and spectacular festival, with colourful canopies and umbrellas amongst drummers, dancers, horn blowers and singers who perform in honour of their ancestral spirits.

Here the slaves bought in the mainland were washed in the river before they were taken to the Castles. Because this river was the last stop of our brothers and sisters that were taken away as slaves, there is a shrine on the river where our brothers and sisters in the Diaspora and Ghanaians in general pour libation for our departed ancestors. In the year 1998 two bodies were flown in from the Caribbean and the North America and were buried just in front of the river. This is to signify the home coming of our brothers and sisters in the Diaspora.)
