African Network Travel and Tours takes you back to your roots to see the castles and forts where slaves were kept during the slave trade in Ghana, West Africa, before they were transported to Europe and America. Visitors from the Diaspora will be mesmerized at the size of the dungeons where the slaves were kept. You will also experience an adventure travel to some well-known beaches and other attractions in Ghana.

1st day - Monday

2nd day – Tuesday
Accra
After a briefing you will start your round trip through Accra, passing through many places of interest like Korlebu, The Independence Square and James Town.

You will visit the Makola market with its stands with colorful materials and tropical fruits, and the Dubois Center, for Pan Africanism.

In the afternoon we will go to the Arts Center for National Culture with the craft bazaar, where you will have a wide choice of souvenirs, woodcarvings, African textiles etc. and the Dr. Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum.

A trip to the special coffin makers of Teshie Nungua, to see coffins in the shape of a tomato, sports shoe, Mercedes benz etc. will end this first day's program.

3rd day – Wednesday
Fort Amsterdam, Elmina Castle, Cape Coast.

Today, we will be off to Cape Coast. On the way you will get acquainted with the colonial history, after a beautiful trip over the coastal road and a short visit to Fort Amsterdam and the fisherman at the beach.

A visit to Elmina Castle and the Elmina fish market is also on the program. Elmina Castle is one of the sixty forts and castles that where build by the Portuguese, the Dutch and the British, during the time of trade in gold, ivory and slaves. A visit to Elmina Castle as well as Cape Coast Castle is a must because it will enable you have a feel of the agony your ancestors went through.

4th day – Thursday
Kakum National Park, Cape Coast Castle and Cape Coast town
First, you will have an excursion to the Cape Coast Castle for a conducted tour and a visit to the museum.

After this you will go to the Kakum National Park for a two hour guided walk straight through the tropical forest following the Kuntan Trail, viewing fascinating herbal plants and impressive huge and very old trees. The brave ones can also (optional) have a fascinating adventure on top of the trees on the Canopy Walkway, the first of its kind on the west coast of Africa.

Then lunch will be taken at Hans Cottage Hotel, whiles we watch the crocodiles, birds and monkeys in the background.

The afternoon’s workshops, drumming and dancing, will give you the feeling of the cultural drumming and dancing of the Fanti people in the Central Region.
In the evening a cultural display by the Fanti people will be followed by a buffet dinner with life music.

5th day – Friday
Cape Coast Town
Today will be a very special and memorial day for you. In one of the villages near Cape Coast a durbar will be held specifically for your homecoming where you will be linked with a family. The family name is given to you during the traditional performance of naming customary and from that day on, you become part of that family. A new birth certificate is given to you with your new family name to signify your homecoming.

6th day – Saturday
Assin Manso, Kumasi.
On this day, we make a 250 km. journey north of Cape Coast to Kumasi on one of the slave routes listed by the "UNESCO".

Our first stop will be at Assin Manso. Here, the slaves bought in the mainland were washed in a river before they were taken to the Castles. Today, the place has become a shrine where people from the Diaspora pour libation for their departed ancestors whenever they visit the place.

In the year 1998 two dead bodies were flown in from the Caribbean and North America and were buried just in front of the river. This is to signify the ‘home coming’ of our brothers and sisters in the Diaspora.

Our second stop will be at the beautiful Lake Bosumtwi, an ideal place to have your lunch. The lake is the only natural lake in Ghana. It has 23 clustered villages along the banks. History has it that no outboard motor has been allowed to fish on the lake.

Last but not least, is a visit to Yaa Asantewaa Museum in Ejisu, the Ashanti Queen worrier who gathered an army to fight the British in 1900. This museum has a typical Ashanti architecture of before 1874.

7th day – Sunday
Kumasi, Pankrono, Ahwiaa, Ntonso, Adanwomaase.
On this morning we will have an excursion to the surroundings of Kumasi. In Pankrono you will see the ladies busy with the production of pottery, in their very special way.

Ahwiaa is known for its woodcraft, and Ntonso is the center of the materials which are stamped with the specific Adinkra symbols. This Adinkra symbolism is very important to the Ashantis.

In the afternoon we go to Adanwomaase for a cultural afternoon. Adanwomaase is one of the Kente villages, where you can see the weavers busy with the weaving of the beautiful and colorful Kente. The Kente chief of Adanwomaase will welcome you in the traditional way with speeches, music and dance.

It will be nice to interact with the village people while you assist them with the traditional cooking and visit one of their farms to see how palm wine is tapped.

On our way back to Kumasi, we will pay a short visit to Bonwire, the popular Kente village.

8th day – Monday
Ada Foah.
Today, we will visit the Manet Paradise Beach Resort at Ada Foah where the Volta River enters the sea. But we shall first take a visit to the Manhyia Palace Museum and the Kejetia market, the biggest market in West Africa.

Manhyia Palace is the seat of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the present King of Ashanti. This day will be ended with a Farewell Dinner alongside with cultural display of music and dance.

9th day – Tuesday
Ada Foah, Accra.
Manet Paradise Beach Resort is an excellent place for water sports; water skiing, boat rides to the delta islands, yachting, fishing, sunbathing, speed boating and good meals.

In the morning there will be a three-hour boat cruise on the Volta River to the meeting point of the ocean, passing through about 20 villages and Islands full of activities. The afternoon is for your relaxation or to do one of the water sports. You will be brought to Accra at the end of the afternoon.
